The tool chain is a huge source of woe at the moment. I chose OE at
the time because I had it working for another project. It breaks all
the time --- as you've found out.

Jon's suggestion is a good one, especially since Louis is using newlib
(glibc has been another source of woe).

There is also a rowley CrossWorks project on the site (thanks to Peter
Lawrence). I don't know much about it though.
